A multiple award winning residential designer, Jim Smolen strives to design unique interiors that will have a positive impact on his client's lives. Jim starts by asking the question, "do you make the spaces you live in work for you or do you deal with them?" Jim Smolen wants to help you make your home a place that will enhance or enrich your life.

Jim started his interior design career with high end residential remodeling firm in Kansas City where he designed a variety of projects including basement finishes, master suite renovations, additions, and a variety of outdoor spaces. Capitalizing on his decade as a professional chef, kitchen remodels became his specialty. While at the firm, Jim’s projects received two gold and three silver REMY awards by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

Jim later worked at small architecture firms in Liberty, Missouri and Paducah, Kentucky as a designer and project manager. While at architecture firms, he expanded upon his residential experience to include custom home design and "Green" and Aging in Place. He also gained experience on the commercial side in retail, hospitality, educational, and mixed use occupancy.

Jim has also developed a passion for historical renovation and preservation. “They used to build to last and with a craftsmanship that is hard to find these days, It is a true pleasure to breath new life into these buildings” says Jim.

In his spare time, Jim enjoys cooking, binge watching TV shows and exploring the outdoors with his wife, Michelle, and their Boston Terrier, Walden.
